Abstract
We developed a device that presents information through modulated vibrations. No previous studies evaluating the human cognition of tactile-based modulated vibrations have, to our knowledge, been conducted before. We propose evaluating cognitive discrimination of modulated vibration stimuli based on event related potential (ERP). Modulated vibrations consist of high fH (40-500Hz) and low fL (2-20Hz) band components, and are represented as points on the fH vs. fL plane. We measure discrimination threshold distribution on the fH vs. fL plane using ERP-based evaluation. An experiment we conducted identify discrimination thresholds in four directions about a reference (nontarget) point.
