Abstract
Micro-EDM Machining Center with rapidly sharpened electrodes was developed in order to implement the precision micromachining. With the proposed machining system, the hybrid system of thin electrode forming and micro-EDM can be carried out on the same machine. It is the hybrid system that combined EDM with ECM. The developed machining system consists of two types of driving devices for gap distance control. One is stepping motor controlled stage and the other is piezo electric tube. The former one is for coarse adjustment and the latter is for fine adjustment. In this paper, we describe the characteristics of the developed machining system with some micromachining results.
