Fuji Technology Press Ltd. is a Japan-based publisher of international academic journals in English.

The company was established in 1948 and adopted its current name, Fuji Technology Press Ltd., in 1963. It subsequently published English-language magazines that introduced developments in Japanese technology and industry to readers overseas, helping to communicate Japan’s technological achievements to the world.

In 1989, we launched the Journal of Robotics and Mechatronics (JRM), marking the beginning of our international academic journal publishing business. Today, we publish four peer-reviewed international journals in English in the fields of robotics, automation, computational intelligence and intelligent informatics, and disaster prevention and mitigation. We also provide editorial and production services for Japanese-language academic journals.

Our mission is to deliver research findings from Japan and around the world as reliable scholarly information. Through scholarly publishing and digital technology, we connect knowledge to the future and contribute to the advancement of science, technology, and society.

As a private publisher with a unique position in Japan, publishing its own international academic journals in English, we give careful attention to every paper and ensure that research findings are presented accurately and preserved in forms that remain accessible and useful over time.

International Journals We Publish

We publish the following four peer-reviewed international journals in English, covering a broad range of research fields related to science, technology, and society.

Journal of Robotics and Mechatronics (JRM)
Launched in 1989, JRM publishes research in robotics, mechatronics, and related technologies.

Journal of Advanced Computational Intelligence and Intelligent Informatics (JACIII)
Launched in 1997, JACIII covers computational intelligence, artificial intelligence, intelligent informatics, and their applications.

Journal of Disaster Research (JDR)
Launched in 2006, JDR takes a comprehensive approach to disasters and publishes research on disaster prevention and mitigation, response, recovery, and reconstruction.

International Journal of Automation Technology (IJAT)
Launched in 2007, IJAT publishes advanced research in automation, manufacturing and processing technologies, and production engineering.

Our Editorial and Publishing Infrastructure

Publishing an international academic journal involves many stages, including manuscript submission, peer review, editing, typesetting, data production, and online publication. We organize and administer the editorial boards of our journals and work closely with editors, reviewers, and authors from Japan and around the world throughout the review and publication process.

Translation and English-language editing are carried out in cooperation with external specialists. However, we perform our core operations primarily in-house, including submission and peer review management, editing, typesetting, data production, and online publication. We also use a submission and peer review system developed by our own team.

Accepted papers are typeset using LaTeX, an open-source typesetting system widely used in scholarly publishing. We develop and maintain the class files required for each journal. We have also developed and operate our own systems for converting articles into machine-readable full-text XML.

Completed articles are published on our website and on J-STAGE, the scholarly information platform operated by the Japan Science and Technology Agency. Our combination of editorial expertise and in-house digital technology forms the foundation of our publishing activities.

Making Research More Visible

As a general rule, articles published in our journals are made freely available online, enabling researchers around the world to access and use them.

Our role extends beyond publishing and providing access to research. We have established journal awards to recognize outstanding papers and promising early-career researchers. By introducing award-winning papers and researchers to an international audience, we aim to help excellent research gain wider recognition and lead to further research and professional opportunities.

Support for Scholarly Journal Publishing

Drawing on the editorial and production expertise developed through our own journals, we also provide editorial and production services for Japanese-language academic journals published by academic societies in Japan. While respecting the editorial policy and operational requirements of each journal, we support typesetting, article data production, full-text XML conversion, and online publication.

Looking Ahead

While continuing to value the editorial and publishing expertise we have developed, we will further advance our submission and peer review systems and our methods of publishing research. Our goal is to create a publishing environment that is easier for researchers to use and enables their work to reach audiences around the world.

We believe this cannot be achieved by working within our company alone. Collaboration with academic societies, research institutions, other publishers, and technology and service providers will be increasingly important. By combining our respective knowledge, technologies, and networks, we aim to carry scholarly publishing from Japan into the next generation and work together to build better systems for the global dissemination of scholarly information.
