This article presents a new robot contest, “RoboCup,” which to provides a challenging series of research issues for both robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) researchers. First, the significance of RoboCup is explained from the viewpoints of a research project, standard problem, and contest. This is followed by an overview of RoboCup, together with conclusions and projected issues.
