Shinko Electric has commercially introduced a "SELCARRY ACE" system of mobile robots for material transfer in clean rooms. The ACE is a new type of guided transfer robot that relies on ultrasonic sensors to check on the physical environment along its running route, uses the data thus obtained to determine its position, and runs accordingly on its own accord. A six-axis vertical articulated arm installed on the robot transfers objects between stations in the room. A sealed battery rechargeable automatically in a short time enables the unmanned ACE to run continuously. Since the battery can be recharged quickly while an object is being transferred, these features enables the user to construct a highly efficient transfer system.
