Abstract
This article is an English translation of an article “The Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923: Actual Situation and Lessons Learned from the Fire Damage” published in the public relations magazine “Bosai” of the Cabinet Office (No.40, 2007/7), with additions made by the author.
