Older persons often need 2 pairs of glasses – 1 for farsightedness and the other for. nearsightedness. Others use 1 pair with both focal lengths in 1 lens, although this requires they select the lens area for particular needs. In this study, we experimented with designing focusing glasses whose lens focal length was controlled automatically based on the line of sight and suitable for presbyopia. The main element we present is a single-sided driven variable-focus lens, whose structure and principle this paper details, whose features we analyze for focusing distance and aberration. We also discuss focal length control suited to presbyopia.
