Development of Feeble Grasping Power Sensor Based on Rubber Optical Fiber

Abstract
A new type of sensor for measuring an extremely feeble grasping power by using rubber optical fiber has been developed which can measure human grasping power. In addition, the possibility to measure patients' grasping power by a hand dynamometer was examined. The optical intensity of rubber optical fiber was linearly related to the applied force. The sensitivity levels were 5.38mV/kg and 0.56mV/kg for the range from 0 to 0.50kg and for the range above 0.50kg, respectively.
