How to use FINDER search

To perform a search,

1. Enter your search term(s) in the text box(es),
2. Choose appropriate fields in which the terms are searched for,
3. Choose your search range and sort condition (if necessary), and
4. Press the "Search" button.

Then a list of articles is displayed. More detailed explanations are found below.

Text fields

Three text entry boxes are provided to enter your search term(s).

Fill in the boxes from the above, i.e., do not use the second or the third box with the first box left empty.
When you use more than one text boxes, their relationship is defined by And/Or. Select the appropriate one from the drop-down menu.

If you enter multiple terms separated by spaces in a single box, you will find articles containing all of them.
That is, the space is treated as the operator "And". For example, the following two queries:

Ex) rescue+robot

give the same result.

When you fill all of the three text boxes connected by And/Or, priority is given to the first operation. For example, the following query:


If you perform a search without specifying search terms, i.e., leaving all the text boxes blank, all the papers stored in FINDER database will be listed. By combining this with the "Narrowing down the search" below, a list of papers published in a specific journal can be displayed.

If you want to clear all text entries and menu choices, press the "Clear" button.

Narrowing down the search

You can limit your search range by

journal title:
the journal titles are listed in the drop-down menu in alphabetical order. Alternatively, you can specify the journal title by ISSN.
language:
English or Japanese used to describe the main text.
publication year:
specify a range (after ... before ...) of years.

By default, all available journals, languages and years are searched.

Sorting options

You can sort results by

publication year
article title

in either ascending or descending order. Choose the appropriate options from the drop-down menu.
As a default, search results are sorted by year in descending order, i.e., the latest articles are displayed first on the list.

Search result

If your query is processed correctly, a list of search results is displayed.

Each record consists of title, author name(s), journal title, volume, number, and published year.

Clicking the title, more detailed information of the article is shown on another window.
It includes:

On clicking the volume and number in journal ref., the Editorial for special issue and the table of contents for the corresponding issue will be displayed.

Press the "Close Window" button to close this window.
