Development of Transplanting Robot

Hisaya Yamada

Abstract:
The mechanization of plant nurseries, especially in floriculture, lags behind other agricultural fields. Transplanting plants in small vessels to bigger ones is important but tedious and time-consuming, so we developed an automatic transplanter. It is the first transplanter to recognize missing plants. This paper presents the transplanter, the background of floricultural production, and the most simplest, most economical, and practical sensing system to check for missing plants. It also discusses ways to use the transplanter effectively and introduces a more advanced system evolved from the simplest sensing system.

Keywords: nursery in floriculture, transplanting robot, missing plug detecting system
